The West has long considered transferring HIMARS missile launch systems to Ukraine, fearing Russia’s reaction. Ultimately, the United States authorities handed over 20 systems in the first year of the war. This provided the Ukrainian army with the ability to attack targets located several dozen kilometers away.

Initially, it was commented that HIMARS could change the fate of the war in Ukraine. In retrospect, we know that this did not happen. However, the possibilities of Kiev’s defenders to attack the enemy’s rear have increased. The best evidence of this may be the recording made available by the Ukrainian Special Operations Forces.
Ukrainian military detected the movement of the R-149 AKSh command vehicle in the Donetsk region. The Russians usually use it to coordinate their units. In this situation, a quick decision was made to use the HIMARS system to eliminate the equipment of the occupier and its soldiers.

After detecting the R-149 AKSh, Ukrainian forces conducted additional reconnaissance, and then the decision was made to use the HIMARS system. He aimed at a Russian truck when it tried to hide between buildings in one of the villages in the Donetsk Oblast.
-In the shared video, we see the truck and surrounding buildings turn into a column of fire. This allows us to conclude that the Ukrainians managed to destroy Russian equipment and eliminate Russian soldiers nearby.
Let us recall that in February 2023, the Washington Post reported that almost all Ukrainian attacks using HIMARS systems are coordinated and agreed with US army officials. The decision was dictated by the fact that the United States wanted to be sure that Kiev would not make any mistake. This is important because it is often the Americans who provide various types of intelligence information to the Ukrainian army.
