A 20-year-old woman was attacked and raped in Southampton’s municipal cemetery early Sunday morning. Police were called just before 7 a.m. local time. The place was cordoned off. A manhunt was immediately launched for the attacker.

“This morning (Sunday – ed.) at 6:44, paramedics called the police. The report concerned a twenty-year-old woman who had been attacked in the Cemetery Lane area of ​​Southampton,” the Hampshire police said in a statement. Officers appealed to anyone who was in the area of ​​Avenue or Cemetery Road, Southampton Common, between 4am and 6.15am on Sunday to contact them.

“The woman reported that she was raped in this place in the early morning hours. An investigation is underway to determine all the circumstances. The police are currently at the scene and the woman is being supported by specialized officers,” it said. Forensic technicians also arrived at the scene.
