Colonel Janno Mark, head of planning at the command of the Estonian Defense Forces (EDF), was quoted by ERR television on Monday as saying that Russian troops are focusing on preventing Ukraine from taking control of further bridgeheads in the area of ​​the Dnieper River and ruling out the possibility of bringing additional troops there .

– Russian losses there are very high – he emphasized. – During this four-week period, it is estimated at about 3,500 soldiers, including wounded and killed. This forced the Russian command to redirect units from other fronts to this area, the colonel noted.

Ukrainian forces carried out a successful attack in the Avdiivka area near occupied Donetsk and moved on, the American Institute for the Study of War reported in its latest analysis. According to reports from the general staff in Kiev, 46 clashes with the Russian army took place on the front in the last 24 hours.

“In the Avdiivka area, the occupiers do not stop trying to surround the city. Our soldiers maintain the defense,” said the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The commander added that Ukraine’s counteroffensive, which has been ongoing for about five months, has not brought the expected success. He noted that the war had entered the phase of static positional fighting intended to destroy the enemy.

– There are many reasons that led to this situation. One of them is certainly Western military aid, which may have been enough to keep Ukraine at war, but not to achieve decisive success, Mark said.
