When checking luggage that was supposed to travel with JFK Airport in New York down Orlando on Florida something unusual caught the attention of the airport staff. As the suitcase passed through the x-ray machine used to scan checked-in luggage, staff noticed bottles, wine glasses, a pair of flip-flops and life size outline of a cat.

After opening the suitcase, it turned out that the outline belongs to a real, live cat.

The red-colored animal must have spent several hours in the luggage. As assessed by employees, but nothing happened to him. The intervention of airport personnel probably saved him from dying in the cargo hold during the flight.

“The officers who opened the suitcase were shocked,” Lisa Farbstein, a spokeswoman, told CNN. Transport Safety Administration (TSA).

“Even though they deal with everything from… illegal firearms to the illicit cranberry sauce, however it is rare to find a live animal in a checked bag,” she added.

The baggage owner was summoned for clarification. He explained that it was not his cat, the animal belonged to someone he shares an apartment with. He suggested that the cat got into the suitcase unnoticed.

A passenger missed his flight but rebooked for the next day. This time he traveled without the cat. Meanwhile, the ginger quadruped named Smells returned to his home healthy.
