The Austrian company Refurbed, whose offer is also available to Poles, argues that it is worth buying refurbished equipment.
Often a reasonable way to save money is to buy, instead of new, second-hand equipment. What’s more, such a solution will undoubtedly be appreciated by lovers of the circular economy. Let’s be honest, not everyone wants to take risks. Even apart from the prospect of being cheated, a used device may simply be worn out. In the long run, it will condemn the buyer to additional service costs and stress, and it will not pay off as well as it might seem.
Austrian start-up Refurbed claims to have found a happy medium. Like several other companies of this type, for example Swappie or Luxtrade, they offer refurbished items. That is, those that are actually used, but before further sale, they go to the appropriate service center, where they undergo inspection, maintenance and possible repairs. The difference is that Refurbed is not limited to one category of goods, much less one manufacturer. In addition to smartphones and laptops, it offers e.g. also clothing and sports equipment, and from the second half of January there are also household appliances.
Cheaper than in the store, more expensive than advertised
The products offered by Refurbed, as declared by the founders, are about 40 percent. cheaper than in the store. Despite this offer a 12-month warranty and a 30-day return policy. What is no less important, they are supposedly always renewed in authorized services. In the press release we can read, for example, that brands such as Graef or DeLonghi pick up their equipment themselves, and Refurbed only mediates in this process.
– 70 to 80 percent of the population is willing to buy products that had a previous owner. If only they can be sure that the products have been professionally checked and have a 12-month warranty says Peter Windischhofer, co-founder of Refurbed. – Price savings of up to 40 percent are just as important to our customers as the aspect of sustainable waste management. Because everything we professionally recycle and reuse doesn’t need to be re-produced the representative assures.
In practice, it is different – quick verification
And what does it look like in practice? – you will ask. You can see that a lot depends on the specific product. For example The iPhone 12 64 GB in theoretically perfect visual condition costs PLN 2,699. In contrast, a new copy in a reputable store can be up to 1,000. PLN more expensive, but I do not know why Refurbed also prices the iPhone 11 in the same way. Here the benefit bill, to put it mildly, does not knock down.-
A novelty in the offer, Thermomix TM5, can be purchased for PLN 3,624. Note that this is not the latest generation of this robot. On advertising websites, this particular model can be picked up for around PLN 2,200-2,500. Another thing is that usually without any warranty in the set. But there are also extreme cases. For example, coffee machines from the exclusive Stone brand save up to 5 percent. Will there be volunteers in this case, well, it’s a matter of approach.
