Izo Zunić is a tennis coach from Croatia and has been the boyfriend of Polish tennis player Magda Linette for over two years. Their relationship began with work. But then there was a feeling between them.
– It all started around 2017 – said Izo Zunić in “Dzień Dobry TVN”. “It’s a fine line when you care about a person and that person also cares about you.” You can tell her anything, but it’s a problem. This line between coach and athlete disappears. We realized that you can’t combine affection with training and it’s time for her to have a new coach and we have a relationship,” he explained.
— We knew right away that we had to separate it. Izu cared too much about our relationship outside the court, he didn’t want tennis to spoil it. He had the courage to step back and let Mark (Mark Gellard – Linette’s new coach – ed.) take over. Now I am calm and I am very happy off the court. Izo supports me in every situation. I can focus on Marek’s tips and tennis – said Magda Linette.
The couple has been officially in a relationship since 2018.
Magda Linnette called Izo the person closest to her. She also confessed how much she owes her partner.
We’ve been in all sorts of situations where there was no money. We were in Australia, I had $300 in my account. We had no way to get home. Izo practically rode with me for the first year for free. He sacrificed a lot of his life for me so that I could go to tournaments, play and fulfill myself
said the tennis player.-
What kind of person is Izo Zunić? Nikola Horvat, one of Magda Linette’s trainers, describes him as a positive and energetic person. “It creates a good atmosphere,” he said.
– He is bursting with energy and would like to give everyone around him this energy – describes Magda Linette’s partner, one of her friends. – I have the impression that Magda has her feet firmly on the ground, and Izo flies. You can see that they complement each other’s characters – he emphasizes.
Izo Zunić was born in Dalmatia but travels all over the world. – If you were born in Dalmatia, you will always be Dalmatian. However, every choice comes with a price. In my case, the price is that I am not in Dalmatia on a daily basis and I am undoubtedly losing a lot – he confessed in an interview with tennismagazyn.pl in 2020.
“For the last 16 years, I’ve only been home for a month or so each year. And that’s my price. I’m Dalmatian, but it hurts me not being able to stay home often,” he admitted, while assuring that he would be more unhappy if he couldn’t achieve his goals.
“Hard work and struggle have been ingrained in our mentality. In addition, we are people with passion who take care of their home and families, said Izo Zunić about the Balkan mentality.
