It seems that Allen’s public repentance and apology did not pacify the Ubisoft authorities. As reported by Eurogamer, which contacted the French company on this matter, the company takes the situation seriously and intends to “react appropriately”. You can read the full statement of the Ubisoft spokesman below.
We regularly provide access and information on our games to trusted partners on a confidential basis. When that trust is tarnished or information is leaked by a private individual, not only is it detrimental and demoralizing for our teams, it also takes away an exciting moment of revealing the game from players. We will not comment on specific cases, but we take these matters seriously and will respond accordingly.
Perhaps some of you know Dan Allen Gaming’s YouTube channel, which presents many interesting facts from the world of games. There you will find guides, instructions and other useful information for players – all in a very harmless form.
At the same time, we have an example (or rather we had) of a mysterious twitter leaker nicknamed The Real Insider. The latter, in turn, seemed to have a deep insight behind the scenes of the gaming industry. From the beginning of its operation, he revealed a variety of information about many upcoming titles and events, such as the latest Ubisoft Forward presentation and the series of productions announced there. Assassin’s Creed.
You will ask what the two characters have in common? Well, it turned out to be one and the same person.
How did it come about?
The entire facade of leaker’s anonymity disappeared earlier this week, thanks to a classic social media glitch. Responding to a Twitter query to The Real Insider, Allen wrote a message from the wrong account. It is true that he quickly deleted the tweet, but nothing is lost on the Internet. The case was dealt with, among others, by Bloomber reporter, Jason Schreier, who compared the series of posts by this leaker with those from Dan Allen. These turned out to be very similar to each other.
Where did the leaker get the secret information?
So where did the “alter ego” of Youtuber – The Real Insider – have the information guarded by game producers from? As Schreier stated, Allen was simply breaking the embargo on messages he received from producers as a well-known influencer (via Kotaku).
Faced with embarrassment, Allen quickly admitted being The Real Insider and apologized for his behavior (see video of his speech below).
I am sorry and ashamed of myself. It took me a while to reflect on my bad decisions that should never have happened. I’m sorry for failing everyone who has supported me over the years, he confessed.
Notwithstanding the sincerity of his apology, while admitting his guilt, he also acknowledged a breach of many NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) agreements, which could have severe consequences. It seems that Allen’s humiliation on social media will soon be the least of his worries.
