NVIDIA unveiled a new generation of graphics cards and did not have too good news for potential customers – NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 are much more expensive than previous models. It turns out that we are not dealing with an exceptional situation, but with a new standard, as the production of new GPUs is much more expensive.
MarketWatch analyzed the premiere prices of two generations of GPUs from NVIDIA, thanks to which we know that the GeForce RTX 4090 is 7% more expensive than the proposal from 2020, while on the GeForce RTX 4080 we have to prepare as much as 29% more budget than the one for the GeForce RTX 3080 from 2020.
After the company’s last presentation, Jensen Huang gave numerous interviews in which he also commented on the issue of expenses – NVIDIA’s CEO stressed that falling GPU prices are “history of the past.”
“A 12-inch silicon wafer is much more expensive today than it was yesterday, and it is not a bit more expensive, it is a lot more expensive,” admitted Huang.
Simultaneously referred to the observation that the number of transistors in a chip doubles every two years. Times have changed and players have to prepare for much more expensive equipment.-
“And the ability of Moore’s law to deliver twice the efficiency at the same cost or the same efficiency at half the cost every year and a half is gone. It’s a total end, so to think that the chip will get cheaper over time is unfortunately history in the past. “
NVIDIA has unveiled a new generation of GPUs that are based on a new architecture, so we probably can’t expect the hardware to be available at a more convenient amount. Enthusiasts of spectacularly presented games must prepare for considerable expenses.
