Sony PlayStation 5 – a new version of the console with a detachable Blu-ray drive may be released next year

-

The PlayStation 5 console is currently offered in two different versions: Blu-ray and slightly slimmed Digital. It is possible, however, that this situation will change as early as next year. According to the latest reports, Sony is working on a new variant of the console to replace the above-mentioned devices. According to Tom Henderson, a well-known and credible insider, a model with … a detachable Blu-ray drive is on the way.

The new version of PlayStation 5 (D Chassis) is to replace the existing models, including the Digital variant. We expect a Blu-ray drive to be included in some bundles, though it should also be sold separately. The console is expected to go on sale in 2023.

Sony PlayStation 5 with a new update: fun in 1440p resolution and a lot of other news

The new console model is allegedly marked as D Chassis (currently the B Chassis is on sale). Theoretically, this is only a new revision, but for obvious reasons, the changes are to be visible to the naked eye. The external Blu-ray drive is to be connected to the PlayStation 5 via the USB-C port. Contrary to fears, this solution is not to ruin the aesthetics of the console, which means that Sony has devised a new shape of the housing that looks good in both combinations. Anticipating the questions – yes, the console is supposed to be a bit thinner and even lighter than the previous variants, but it looks like nothing will change in terms of hardware.

Sony is raising prices for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Digital Edition consoles in Europe – the increase is immediate

The Blu-ray drive will likely be included in some packages but should also be sold separately. So players will be able to decide which solution is more convenient. Although it is difficult to predict at the moment what exactly Sony came up with, such a concept may make sense. First of all, the manufacturer could focus on the production of one version of the console, which would translate into a greater number of copies produced and shipped. In addition, players choosing a variant without Blu-ray would no longer be condemned to digital gaming – if necessary, buying a drive would not be a problem. The new version of PlayStation 5 (D Chassis) is to be revealed in 2023. As long as nothing is confirmed yet, it is worth treating these reports with distance, but we are curious about further reports on this matter.
