“Microsoft is currently conducting the largest infrastructure expansion that humanity has ever seen. Although this may seem excessive, it is worth looking at the company’s annual expenses – these are higher than national investments in railway networks, the construction of dams, and even space programs such as the Apollo Moon landing,” wrote Dylan Patel and Myron Xie from Semi Analysis, assessing the company’s involvement in the development of the artificial intelligence industry.
This is about infrastructure related to artificial intelligence, including: data centers, computing power or energy and cooling installations.
Elon Musk retweeted the results of this analysis. Under the quoted text, in which experts point out that all state spending pales in comparison to Microsoft’s annual spending on data centers, which exceeds $50 billion, Musk posted a short comment: “Yikes!” It can be translated as an expression of amazement and surprise (in Polish it can be translated as “Oh my!”).
-$50 billion this is the amount that Microsoft has planned for 2024 and subsequent years – the goal is to expand the infrastructure, i.e. databases. According to Patl and Xie, ultimately it is about accelerating the race related to building AGI, i.e. general artificial intelligence. This – according to experts – would be present in virtually every aspect of our lives – from applications related to increasing our productivity at work to leisure.
