Although the use of Path Tracing in AAA games is a real breakthrough in graphics quality, the technique still has its drawbacks. One of them is the phenomenon of ghosting, which is especially visible in the case of fast-moving objects in Cyberpunk 2077. However, technological progress in the future will also eliminate this problem. The latest version of the Ray Reconstruction technique can bring significant improvement, if it is implemented into the game.
The use of a DLL file from the latest version of the Ray Reconstruction technique in Cyberpunk 2077 reduces the problem of ghosting and distortions that affect players in some areas of the game after activating Path Tracing.

The phenomenon of ghosting can be very troublesome. The easiest way to observe them is to perform dynamic movements of the weapon against the background of an area where the light does not fall directly. You can then see a specific “after-image” that the player’s movements leave on the screen for some time. Another imperfection is image and lighting distortions visible, for example, behind cars when the player drives at high speed into some indirectly lit areas of the city. There are people who are bothered by these phenomena so much that they decide to turn off Path Tracing completely. However, the problem may soon be minimized.

The latest update to Alan Wake 2 implements another version of the Ray Reconstruction technique (3.5.10.0). One of the players decided to use a DLL file from Remedy Entertainment in Cyberpunk 2077. It brought unexpectedly good results. Although ghosting has not completely disappeared, a significant reduction in the time it takes to fade away against the background of indirectly lit scenes can be noted. During fast-paced action, he can be almost unnoticeable. The biggest problem is still the clearly visible trail behind a fast-moving car and the lighting distortions that appear behind it, although improvements can also be seen here. It is possible that an official implementation of the new version of Ray Reconstruction would improve the situation even more, but it is not certain whether we will see it. For now, the mentioned file can be downloaded from Google Drive.
