According to information provided to Rzeczpospolita by the National Association of Educational Staff, school principals will be able to distribute potassium iodide to school children when the need arises (the reason for these actions is the escalation of the war in Ukraine). Marek Pleśniar, a representative of an organization associating school principals from all over the country, told Rzeczpospolita that meetings with local government officials are currently underway.
– Some people hear that they will have six hours for such distribution from the announcement of the alarm, although it is not certain that the procedure will be the same everywhere – said Pleśniar.
Such signals flow, among others from Warsaw. And the capital city hall confirms that it is conducting “preparations for the distribution of tablets containing potassium iodide in the event of a radiation emergency” district distribution points to be prepared.

Due to the fighting in the vicinity of the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant, which is constantly fired upon by the Russians, the tablets will be distributed in Poland if necessary. – This is standard procedure. Experts today do not point to any substantial increase in the radiation threat – said the head of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, Michał Dworczyk, quoted by Wirtualna Polska. – Speaking of potassium iodide, which is distributed in Poland, it was actually delivered by the Government Strategic Reserves Agency to all voivodships and there by voivodes, based primarily on the State Fire Service, distribution is prepared, but it is a standard procedure that must be apply – said Michał Dworczyk on Thursday.
