Initial calculations by the Ministry of Marlena Maląg from September 6 indicated 4.9 percent. The data show that the Polish labor market is still defending itself against the economic slowdown. In June, registered unemployment dropped to the lowest level in 30 years and amounted to 4.9%. In July, it remained at the same level. In turn, the latest data released on Friday showed that unemployment in Poland in August fell to 4.8%.

As reported by the Central Statistical Office, the number of unemployed people registered with labor offices in August amounted to 806.9 thousand. against 810.2 thous. people in July.

This means that there were less unemployed than in July (by 3.3 thousand, i.e. 0.4 percent) and less than in August last year (by 153.9 thousand, i.e. 16 percent).

After 1991, the unemployment rate has never been below 5%. It fell to this level at the end of 2019 and later, due to the coronavirus crisis, unemployment jumped to 6.5%.

The unemployment rate in voivodships ranged from 2.7%. in Greater Poland to 7.6 percent. in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship.

In the first week of September, the minister of family and social policy, Marlena Maląg, said that in the budget assumptions for next year, the ministry estimates that the unemployment rate may increase, but not drastically. “We estimate it by one percentage point” – said the minister.
