Gonzalo Higuain has faced harsh criticism, especially in his home country. When he was representing Argentina, his national team lost three consecutive grand finals in 2014-2016 – the World Cup in Brazil and two editions of the Copa America. The forward resigned from appearing in the national team in 2018 and, as he himself admitted, this decision was received with ironic satisfaction in his homeland.

Now Higuain said “enough”. The former Real, Juventus and Napoli striker ends up turning the other cheek and wants to make people aware of the fatal consequences of over-criticism. “We need to be more aware of the damage that insults can do because sometimes they are irreversible and people don’t realize it,” he said in an interview with ESPN.

The Argentine no longer intends not to react to the hatred that comes across him. – In the face of insults, I bowed my head for 15 years, I personally never answered them. Now comes a point where I won’t tolerate it anymore and walk around with my head down, Higuain announced. – Why are we not allowed to react? Some people earn more money, others less, but we all deserve respect, ‘he added.

Higuain: “Something that takes life has been normalized”

Higuain also admitted that his mental condition improved after the birth of his daughter, and that malicious comments about him were less frequent at the time. “People don’t realize that not only did I have three failures with Argentina, then my mother was dying, and I was exposed to a lot of insults,” the footballer complained.

The Inter Miami player also expressed his dislike of memes appearing on the internet. “What bothers me about the memes is that they’ve normalized, and it’s something common, like going to the supermarket. And they cause irreparable damage. Something that takes life has been normalized – concluded Gonzalo Higuain.
