In the 10th round of Group H of the Euro 2024 qualifying round, the Slovenian national team defeated Kazakhstan 2-1 at home and advanced to next year’s European Championship. However, quite unexpectedly, Denmark lost 1-2 in Northern Ireland.
In order to advance to the European Championships in 2024 after a 24-year break, the Slovenians needed a victory against Kazakhstan and they achieved their goal, although it was not easy for them.
The Slovenian team took the lead in the 41st minute. Then Jan Worogowski committed a foul in his own penalty area, but referee Szymon Marciniak awarded the penalty number eleven only after video verification (VAR). Benjamin Sesko scored confidently from the 11th meter.
The response from the Kazakhs came right after the break, when Maksim Samorodov delivered a brilliant cross from the right flank, and Ramazan Orazov beat Jan Oblak’s first ball from a few meters.

Matjaz Kek’s players fought to score their second goal, but they were unable to surprise the defense of the Kazakhstan team for a long time. They managed to do it only in the 86th minute thanks to substitute Benjamin Verbic, who scored beautifully from the corner of the penalty area.
Confident of advancing to Euro 2024 and triumphing in Group H of the qualifiers, the Danes actually went on a trip to Belfast on Monday. In such a case, coach Kasper Hjulmand made several changes to the lineup (he put Joakim Maehle and Pierre-Emile Hoejbjerg on the bench), and his team lost 0-2 after goals by Isaac Price and Dion Charles.
-The Finns (will play in the play-offs) did not impress, but they managed to defeat San Marino away, winning 2-1. Pyry Soiri scored two goals for the visitors in the second half of the match, and Filippo Berardi made the hosts happy at the very end of the match by successfully taking a penalty kick.
