Media: Will a distinguished Polish club be sold? The city mayor confirms

Górnik Zabrze fans have long been demanding that the club be owned not by the city but by a private owner. And it is possible that their appeal will soon come true.

Górnik Zabrze fans are fed up with mediocrity. The 14-time Polish champions achieved their last successes in the previous millennium. And the only solution to the problem is to sell the club. It seems that something has moved on this matter.

The Mayor of Zabrze, Małgorzata Mańka-Szulik, introduced a draft resolution on the sale of the club to the Monday City Council meeting – reported “Dziennik Zachodni”. After a heated discussion, councilors adopted the resolution with one abstention.

As we reported in October, 52-year-old businessman Thomas Hansla, owner and president of Key Solutions, is willing to buy Górnik.

– Yes it’s true. I want to buy Górnik. I think I have enough knowledge, experience and contacts. Of course, this cannot be done immediately. You have to go step by step, in my case it would be a multi-year project. But I am very interested in taking over the club, he said in an interview with WP SportoweFakty.

– We are in talks with two entities. One is foreign capital, about which there is already a lot of talk, the other is domestic and it is not the capital group that was supposed to be focused around Bogdan Kmiecik. This first potential investor has already canceled two meetings due to illness, and sent his representative to the third one. Now we are waiting for him to take several steps, including signing confidentiality documents. Then we will return to direct talks, said President Mańka-Szulik in an interview with “Dziennik Zachodni”.

Of course, we should not expect that Górnik will be sold today or the day after tomorrow. This is a process that will take at least several weeks. This is how much it will take to value Górnik’s shares alone.

Mańka-Szulik says that the city is able to sell the controlling stake, but only in the case of an absolutely serious and guaranteed financial offer.
