The Brasil Ultra Tri race started on Saturday, May 20 at 14.00 Polish time. Two other compatriots take part in the extreme Ironman: Jurand Czabański and Rafał Go Dzwon. On the night of Wednesday to Thursday, a short video was posted on the profile of the latter, showing the athlete and Robert Karas eating sausage rolls. It was their first craving on the tour.

Robert Karas triumphs! The sky-high feat of a Pole in Brazil

In his career, Karaś managed to record many successes in ultratriathlons. In 2017, he became the champion and world record holder in the double Ironman distance. Two years later, he repeated his success and improved his own record by over an hour (18 hours 44 minutes 38 seconds). In 2018, he became the champion and world record holder in the triple Ironman (30 hours 48 minutes 57 seconds), breaking the 15-year-old record by 59 minutes. In 2021, during the competition in Mexico, Leon enjoyed the championship and world record in the five-time Ironman distance (he finished the competition in 67 hours, 58 minutes and 1 second). In June 2022, this result was beaten by Adrian Kostera (he reached the finish line after 67 hours 45 minutes and 51 seconds).

In 2022, he wanted to break the world record in the ten-time Ironman and had a huge advantage over the other competitors, but on the third stage in Switzerland he had to withdraw from the competition due to health reasons. Problems also affected him in Brazil, but this time they did not prevent him from achieving his goal.

Fans supported the 34-year-old, who suffered greatly, until the last kilometers on the route. He previously admitted that he had suffered an anterior tibial myositis injury. “Unfortunately, we will have to go to the finish line,” he said about 50 km from the finish line.

– Couldn’t finish the race today. Only 14 laps left. My leg is in such bad shape that we need to get it treated. Health is most important. We’ll probably leave in the morning and most likely I won’t be able to run it, I’ll just go through it – said Karaś in the recording he posted on Instastories around 2 Polish time.

When the fans from the Vistula River slowly woke up, Karaś had 7 laps left, which is only 11.2 km. We managed to reach the finish line at approx. 10.15 Polish time. When the inscription “Last lap!!” appeared on Grzegorz Jarecki’s Instagram from the Karaś team (last lap), the fans’ hearts began to beat harder. Nothing bad happened on the final straight, and there was great joy in the Polish camp in Brazil. Jarecki was the first to inform about the feat in social media. “WE DID IT,” he posted on Instagram.

The goal was a world record of 182 hours, 43 minutes and 43 seconds. There is no doubt that he was beaten by Karaś. We are waiting for official confirmation of when Karaś reached the finish line. This is a result of around 164 hours.

The Pole took part in the competition in Brazil under the patronage of the Fame MMA federation (in which he debuted in February 2023.). Together with his sponsor, the triathlete organized a charity event for the benefit of the less than three-year-old Michalina Kuna, a ward of the Foundation for Children on Time with Help. For each kilometer covered by the athlete during the race, Fame MMA will donate PLN 10 to a collection for a girl who suffers from hypochondroplasia, a very rare genetic disease of bones and cartilage.
