Despite Waters’ manifesto, it was not without controversy. According to many concert participants in Germany, the Briton once again shocked. Waters was wearing a black outfit resembling an SS uniform. He also pretended to shoot the audience with a dummy resembling the German MP 40 submachine gun used by the Wehrmacht during World War II.
It’s not everything. The names and surnames of the victims of various attacks appeared on large screens during the concerts. There were, among others, Anne Frank, a Dutch Jewish woman murdered during the Holocaust and author of war memoirs, George Floyd, who was killed by an American policeman in 2020 (his death gave rise to the Black Lives Matter movement) and the Palestinian correspondent Shireen Abu Akleh, who died tragically in 2022 while covering an Israeli Defense Forces raid on a Palestinian refugee camp, she was shot by an Israeli soldier.
The Dark Side of Roger Waters
Roger Waters has been a member of the BDS organization for years, which aims to force Israel to leave the territories occupied in Palestine. Waters repeatedly compared Israel’s policy to that of South Africa during apartheid. As a result, he was accused of anti-Semitism, which the musician, however, repeatedly distanced himself from.
-Waters found himself on the verge of exclusion after last year’s comments on the war in Ukraine. He accused President Zelensky of “extreme nationalism” and called on the West to stop arms supplies to Ukraine. As a result of these statements, the authorities of Kraków canceled his concert, which was to take place in April this year, and the musician himself was declared “persona non grata” in the capital of Lesser Poland.
