The future of Korona Kielce will be decided on Saturday in Łódź. In the last round of the league season, Kamil Kuzera’s players will face Widzew. If they win, regardless of the results of other matches, they will remain in the football elite. In the event of a loss of points, they will have to count on slips by Śląsk Wrocław or Wisła Płock.

The statistics of direct matches are not too optimistic for the “yellow-reds”. Out of ten matches against Widzew in the Ekstraklasa, they won only one. In the 2013/2014 season, after which the inhabitants of Łódź were relegated to the first league, they enjoyed a 2:1 victory in front of their own audience, after two goals by Jacek Kiełb. In the top flight, they also recorded six defeats and three draws.

Korona won four times at the stadium at al. Piłsudski in the 2nd and 1st leagues. The last triumph was celebrated last season. Beating Widzew 2:1 in the 30th round allowed Kielce to stay in the game for the top league. The goal worth three points was then scored by Evgeny Szykawka.

“I remember that game very well because we won and I scored an important goal. There was a nice atmosphere in the stadium and three points meant a lot to us at the time. It will be a completely different meeting now. We have to win so as not to look at the other teams. However, you need to focus on your own task, and not run up to the bench every five minutes and ask about the results at other stadiums – believes the Belarusian striker.

Evgeny Szykawka has not yet extended his contract, which ends in June, but if Korona stays in the Ekstraklasa, it will stay in Kielce.

– If there is maintenance, there is a good chance that I will stay in Korona. I really like everything here, the atmosphere, the people working in the club and the team. I feel very comfortable in Kielce, as do my family, stressed Evgienij Szykawka.

In the autumn round, Korona lost to Widzew in front of their own audience 0:1, and the scorer of the goal in added time was the Croatian Mato Miloš. All matches of the 34th round of PKO BP Ekstraklasa will start on Saturday at 17.30.
