In connection with the place of organization of the event, which was to be the hall of the University of Adam Mickiewicz, there were many protests, including among artists and townspeople. On January 24, Radio Poznań informed about the cancellation of the event by the organizer. PiS councilor Michał Grześ was also tempted to comment on the matter.

The concert of Zenon Martyniuk in the auditorium of the Poznań university was cancelled
Tickets for the event “The end of the carnival with Zenon Martyniuk and the Akcent band!” have been available for sale for weeks. On Tuesday, January 24, the organizer of the concert informed Radio Poznań that in consultation with the university authorities, a decision was made to cancel the event. However, no official information was given as to why the concert planned for February 20 will not take place.
However, it can be assumed that the decision could have been influenced by the protests of musicians from the Poznań Philharmonic, youth councilors, as well as ordinary residents of the city who opposed disco polo music in a place like the university auditorium. – This is the hall that receives presidents and Günter Grass. The disco polo concert in this place is ridiculous – commented one of the Poznań musicians in a December conversation with poznan.wyborcza.pl.
“It turned out that the AMU hall is a ‘temple’ and there is no place for disco polo”
PiS politician Michał Grześ also informed about the cancellation of the event at the session of the Poznań City Council. Although the official reason for the cancellation of the concert was not given, the councilor did not hide his indignation with the protests against the organization of the concert. – We are told that Poznań is an open city, that everyone is welcome here. Well, it turns out not. The protests against this concert surprised me a bit. It turned out that the hall of the UAM is a “temple” and there is no place for disco polo – quotes the words of the Poznań councilor “Wyborcza”.-
However, the PiS politician did not stop there. – It doesn’t matter that various concerts of popular and folk music are held there, with better and worse artists. Disco polo is a border that cannot be crossed. According to opponents, the hall is a sacred place. Is it really? The Royal Academy, that was the name of the institution for the needs of which the assembly hall was created. I will say it mildly that the Royal Academy in Prussian times was not used to emphasize the Polishness of our lands – said Grześ.
What is the infamous story quoted by the councilor about? Radio Poznań reminds that during the German occupation, the NSDAP convened in the hall. Later, it was the meeting place of the Polish United Workers’ Party and the Citizens’ Militia
The press spokeswoman of the university also referred to the case, who informed that the relevant contract for the rental of the auditorium had not been signed, and the AMU authorities had not received any letters or petitions regarding the concert.
