Last week, CBŚP visited at least 66 plants producing animal feed – describes the case of WP. They secured feed samples and documentation related to the products of the German company B., whose Polish branch is located in Poznań. And it is him that is being investigated by the prosecutor’s office since the beginning of 2022.
A few days ago, the police from the province. Zachodniopomorskie was detained by the president of the Polish branch, Maciej J., and his wife Monika. In the Szczecin prosecutor’s office, the couple heard allegations of fraud for PLN 176 million – writes Onet.
The poultry affair in Poland. Chickens and ducks were fed with industrial waste
Animal feed is enriched with fats. These fats must undergo specialized checks related to their intended use for food. For years, the company from Poznań has specialized in the production of fats which were used to enrich feed for farm animals.
Maciej and Monika J. have been using fatty acids for this purpose for some time. from Russia, Ukraine, Malaysia and Romania. These products were unfit for consumption or use in the food industry. They were waste from the production of more noble products, or produced with the use of less demanding technologies than those used in the food industry – writes WP.

As a result, their contamination was higher than that allowed in fats intended for food. These fats, which have been used in the production of fodder, are used to produce lubricants, technical oils and biofuels. The reason why these fats were added to feed by Polish producers is probably lower price than food fats.-
Industrial fats were tested in B’s laboratories, where “miraculously” was found to meet nutritional standards. The adulterated fat was supposed to go to at least two products intended for the enrichment of poultry feed, WP notes. The allegations relate to fraud in the years 2020-2022, but the practice may reach even 2017.
The poultry affair. Four people from a company in Poznań detained. Two pleaded guilty to fraud
Apart from a married couple who ran a Polish branch of the company, an accountant, a commercial proxy, and a laboratory assistant were detained. The employees did not plead guilty to the charges and argued that they did not know about the actions of the management. The court refused to arrest them. Maciej and Monika J. pleaded guilty and have been in custody for several days. The prosecution believes that they were active in an organized criminal group.
The arrested claim that the technical fats they bought were not much cheaper than food fats and did not contain many more harmful substances. Thanks to the fraud, they wanted to be more competitive in the market, it also allowed them to avoid border controls. They add that they mixed technical fats with food fats to reduce their harmfulness. Onet’s source, however, claims that the company pulled little food fats, so they could not be added as an enhancer to technical fats.
– It is difficult to assume in advance whether and how harmful these technical fats could be. They differ from food products in that they are not always intended for consumption, do not have sufficiently restrictive approvals, and may contain various components, also of unnatural origin. They may contain contaminants with compounds hazardous to the health of consumers. Therefore, in such situations, it is necessary to carry out tests and check what and, if necessary, how many such undesirable substances they contained. It can be a big deal if, in the end, it turns out that consumers on a large scale ate some unproven stuff, unchecked and harmful to their health – says a biotechnologist working in the food industry in an interview with Onet, who wants to remain anonymous. – It may also turn out otherwise, that is, that the final product, the meat that has certainly been tested in the producer’s plant, was free from these harmful substances, because, for example, during the processing process, it was removed from the final product – he adds.
