The questioned practices of the OLX platform include misleading consumers, sorting offers on the website and the illusory protection of buyers under the “Protection Package”.

The Office of Competition and Consumer Protection received signals from website users regarding the use of unfair practices.

The President of UOKiK charged the company with misleading sorting of offers. “When choosing the option” from the cheapest “- the prices do not include the fee for the” Service “, which may affect the selection of a less profitable offer. This fee is added only to some products – when the buyer uses OLX shipments and payments. As a result, for example, a shirt men’s shirt for PLN 39 with a service fee of PLN 3.67 (visible only after clicking on the advertisement) ranks higher and seems more attractive than the shirt for PLN 40, at which there is no additional feet “- we read in the UOKiK announcement.

Reliable sorting of products must be based on comparable criteria. Searching for offers “from the cheapest” should make it possible to find the most advantageous one, without the need to verify each advertisement. This is especially important when we are looking for popular products, which are many on the website. Sorting by price should take into account all the elements that make up its final amount. Omitting a component may mislead the user“- says the President of UOKiK, Tomasz Chróstny.

The President of UOKiK also had reservations about the lack of clear and unambiguous information about the “Maintenance service” itself. The allegation concerns not informing users about the possibility of purchasing without additional payment, e.g. by setting the conditions of direct collection from the seller in messages on the platform.

As reported by UOKiK representatives, buyers also reported irregularities in the complaints regarding the “Protection Package”. This service is presented by the platform as an additional protection that allows you to report an empty package or receive an item other than the one ordered within 24 hours of receipt.

The consumer has the right to expect from the entrepreneur that a given website has been designed in an honest manner, and that the information contained therein and the services offered, e.g. increasing security, are reliable. If an entrepreneur decides to introduce an additional protection package, it must be done honestly“- explains the President of UOKiK, Tomasz Chróstny.

If the allegations are confirmed, OLX is threatened with a financial penalty of up to 10%. annual turnover.
